Progressing in Online Media...

We continue to progress in our online media technology course, moving on to video now. I'm hoping at some point that we discuss how to navigate the world of blogging; i.e. how to evaluate the credibility of a blog or how to gauge readership/audience/popularity. I'll also post this question on the class blog to get some feedback from the professor. My video is soon to post!

Hi Shannon -
I've been wondering about the same thing, both as a user and as someone posting content. In the arts (as in education) success is built on "measurables" - for credibility, progress, success, etc. I'd like to hear from folks in the "know" about such things.

The blogging excitement is new to be (obviously), but I'm trying to figure out how to gauge a site and what it is about a blog or site that resonates with me or that keeps me there for longer than a click. On your blog, I must admit it was the picture of Lola and your rockstar headshot. Seriously, rockstar.
Maybe pictures are the trick...

Interesting question about how to evaluate blogs. I think another of the immediate signs to the reader about credibility of the source is how well-written it is. I have to look it up, but one of our early class readings reiterated the idea that old fashioned good grammar, spelling, sense of voice, high readability, and appropriate use of at least some sophisticated vocabulary, all still count towards lending credence to the writing. I know I get off a blog quickly if the writing style is not up to par unless it is a friend's blog and I am reading it strictly to catch up on his/her personal news. I should give this more thought, but that is what comes to mind immediately.
